Age charity appeals for varied volunteers

A Spalding charity is urgently appealing for drivers, escorts and a tech wizard to help keep operations running.

Liz Walmsley, General Manager of Age UK Spalding, said the organisation needs assistance in key areas.

“We currently have 33 volunteers covering 120 hours per week,” said Mrs Walmsley.

“Ideally we would like two more drivers and three escorts to assist with getting people into the centre and home again.

“The hours are 9am to 10.30am and 2.45pm to 4.00pm. There is no special licence required for our buses but drivers must be over 30 years old and ideally under 75.”

Mrs Walmsley added the current vacant days for escorts are Tuesday morning, Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning.

She currently needs a driver for Wednesday afternoons and for holiday and sickness cover.

Mrs Walmsley added they also need someone with website experience to help update their site.

“Our website is currently in the process of being altered by Age UK National and we urgently need someone with experience in IT to help us with this transition and to keep it updated,” she said.

The day centre is at The Meadows, Spalding.

“The Day centre currently supports 70 elderly people who can access the centre, chiropody, hairdresser, bathing and advice, making a real difference to their lives, often being vulnerable and lonely with no close family nearby,” said Mrs Walmsley.
