Action to remove Spalding pub graffiti

The last step to smarten up the derelict Bull and Monkie site in Spalding got underway with a graffiti clean-up.

Contractors were drafted in by South Holland District Council to remove the ugly writing from the outside of the building.

A spokesman for the council said the process took several hours as a chemical was painted over the graffiti before being allowed to set and then being steamed off.

Gated fencing has also been put up around the site in an attempt to stop cars parking there and to keep the vandals out.

The spokesman said: “The building is something you see as you are driving into town and it was a bit of an eyesore.

“It has now been cleaned up and although not perfect, in the short term it is a lot better than it was.”

The building’s owners, Crispen Holdings Limited, were previously served a notice to clean up the site, but failed to respond.

They will now be billed for the work.

The action is the latest in the council’s Pride in South Holland campaign, which aims to clean up some of the district’s worst grot spots.

Street cleaning teams have also been out and about this week and fly-tipping has been removed.
