Ace way to mark club’s 50th

The kings and queens of Spalding Duplicate Bridge Club held a special celebration competition recently to mark its half century.

Members held a special bridge competition at the Spalding Services Club on Saturday, May 7 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its formation in 1972.

It originally met at Ayscoughfee Hall before moving to the South Holland Centre and then to the Services Club.

Founding members of the club included John and Pattie Harbage, Jean Grieg, Margaret Aitken, Ralph Jowett, Ron Ackroyd, Jack Molson and John Tilling.

John, who is still a member and is currently president of the club, attended the event with many of the current members including several who have been involved for over 40 years.

There were also guests from Pinchbeck, Bourne and Stamford Bridge Clubs.

A duplicate bridge competition was held over two sessions with a buffet lunch served during the interval.

The winners of the competition were Patrick Skells and Adrian Wilson and runners up were John Tilling and Eileen Hitchman.

The club meets on Monday evenings at 7pm with learner sessions available.

It welcomes new members and guest players at any time.
