The regulars for this Sunday’s Tydd Gote Angling Club match at Main Road were met with 20 mile per hour winds – and a forecast of gusts up to 50 miles per hour.
But it was Pete Emery who blew away the opposition with 7lb 9oz of roach and rudd to claim first place.
Emery had the majority of his fish on far bank waggler, which was even more remarkable given the conditions.
Andrew Kilby also caught on the waggler for his 6lb 14oz of better quality fish, with Archie Greenwood completing the top three with a pole caught 5lb 6oz.
The threat of a frozen North Level meant the Wednesday Open was moved to the Footbridge Section on the 20’ at March – and what a good choice it turned out to be as the roach fed in numbers.
John Taylor blitzed the roach with a fine 25lb 11oz, but Emery was close behind on 23lb 10oz.
A resurgent Darren Williams was in third with 12lb 14oz.
