Abbie’s South Africa opportunity

A 17-year-old is raising money so she can help teach young people in South Africa.

Abbie Brown, from Crowland, is working with the charity Project Trust which sends people on gap year projects.

She’s been inspired to do so after seeing her step-sister Charlotte take part in a trip to the country.

Abbie, who is set to begin her final year studying psychology, biology and physical education A-Levels at The Deeping School, hopes to go on the trip this time next year.

But she needs to raise £6,500 to cover the cost so is putting on a host of events including a coffee morning at Crowland Community Hub on Wednesday, October 27.

Other events she’s planning include events such as a car wash, fright nights, sponsored skydive, bake sales and staff vs sixth form football and netball games.

Abbie said: “I heard about Project Trust while attending a post-18 options day at school.

“After looking at videos on YouTube and hearing about what my step sister had done, I decided to apply as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I will be teaching primary school students in a rural placement acting as a role model; I can also run extra-curricular activities.

“I have always loved helping people and love teaching.”
