A Night at The Musicals

The RAF Swing Wing featuring Matthew Ford

South Holland Centre, Spalding. Friday, May 2, 7.30pm

Music from the Musicals will be played by the outstanding musicians of the RAF Swing Wing accompanied by the top big band singer Matthew Ford and a female vocalist.

Award-winning vocalist Matthew Ford is widely regarded as the finest big band singer in the UK, broadcasting regularly with the BBC Big Band and the John Wilson Orchestra. Matthew has built an enviable wealth of experience, performing with the Halle, Philharmonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC and RTE Concert Orchestras. As a recording artist Matthew is always in demand for sessions and albums, his recent album ‘Portrait’ airing on BBC and RTE Radio.

Matthew works regularly with acclaimed conductor John Wilson, performing at the 2011 BBC Proms in ‘Hooray For Hollywood’, and subsequently touring the UK with the John Wilson Orchestra, something he repeated in November 2013. Matthew also featured on the hit JWO album ‘THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!’ recorded at Abbey Road studios.

In 2012 Matt broadcast twice on ‘Friday Night Is Music Night’, performing with John Barrowman and Lee Mead in tributes to Irving Berlin and Gene Kelly. 2013 saw Matt returning to the Royal Albert Hall for his second BBC Proms appearance (Hollywood Rhapsody), perform at the Aldeburgh and Harrogate Festivals, and make his US debut, performing in Hollywood as featured soloist with the John Wilson Orchestra.

As with previous RAF Band concerts all the proceeds will be donated to the service charity Help for Heroes. To date these Spalding concerts have raised £26,000 and the target for this concert is £4,000.
