A Lightning raid earns semi spot

Spalding Lightning Ladies are through to the semi-finals of the national Yetton Plate.

They returned victorious from the Riverain Indoor Bowls Club near Hitchin after beating Colchester 80-64.
Lightning started slowly and found themselves 11 shots adrift but by the halfway point had taken a six-shot lead, which was extended to 15 at 15 ends.
Spalding held their nerve to close out the match 24 points ahead to book a semi-final against Avon Valley on Saturday, March 15 at a neutral venue yet to be decided.
Special mentions go to Trish Stafford and June Angus, who made their debuts in the competition.

l Spalding Indoor Bowls Club welcomed Skegness in their most recent Mixed County League fixture.
Spalding ran away with the aggregate as two rinks won comfortably but with three winning rinks, Spalding won 95-56 and 12-2 on match points.
The top winning rink was skipped by David Nunney, with Gill Haydon, Carole Nunney and George Deaton, who had an impressive 30-8 win.

l Spalding IBC hosted Horncastle in a closely contested friendly fixture, which saw the away team win by eight shots (90-98).
The top winning rink was skipped by Paul Turner, with Jenny Wakefield and Cliff Lattimer, who won 23-8.
