A South Holland author is behind a new book that tells the life story of the nanny of a motor racing dynasty.
My Hilarious Life is by Andrea (Andy) Thorlby and written with Patrick Limming and Adam Wilkins, of Performance Publishing.
It tells the story of Andy’s time as nanny to Graham and Bette Hill’s children between 1968 and 1971, a period when Graham won the Formula One Drivers’ World Championship for the second time.
She looked after their three children, including son Damon who would go on to win the world title himself in 1996 and who mentions her in the forward of his autobiography.
Patrick said: “Andy’s story gives a unique insight as to what life was like, living with one of the most charismatic and determined drivers of all time, his formidable wife Bette and children Brigitte, Damon and Samantha.
“To say Andy lived life in the fast lane would be an understatement as she travelled to places and met people most can only dream of.
“How could a farm-hand’s daughter brought up in the Lincolnshire Fends end up with such a dream job?
“These certainly were different times and life was more exciting because of that.”
