‘I could not fault either food or service throughout the evening’

review by Gill Wheldon

A warm, family friendly welcome awaits you at The Golden Lion in Moulton Seas End.

My husband John and I went for a meal there recently and it was a very enjoyable experience.
Landlady Rachael Murray served us drinks then we sat in the comfortable bar to browse the menu.
Rachael explained that all food is freshly cooked and sourced locally.
We were shown into the well presented restaurant which is spotlessly clean and the friendly waitress was in attendance.
For a starter we chose Stilton stuffed mushrooms (£4.95), which came with a salad garnish and were absolutely delicious. I could have easily chosen this with a side order of chips for a main course – it would have been more than adequate.
For my main course I chose chicken breast in a creamy white wine and tarragon sauce (£9.95).
This was served with crushed baby potatoes and salad, both of which were very tasty.
John chose steak and ale pie (£9.95) which was stuffed full of meat and came with chunky hand-cut chips and peas and a jug of gravy.
The waitress was on hand to keep our glasses filled and offering extra sauces if required.
Desserts, priced from £3.95, were presented on a small black board as these change on a regular basis.
There was a choice of five, including such delights as Pimms Eton mess, Baileys creme brulee and lemon meringue pie.
All desserts come with a choice of cream, ice cream or custard.
To be honest I was too full after the generous portions of the main course and starter to eat a dessert but John chose lemon meringue pie with ice cream which he said was as good as his mum used to make.
The pub also has a three meat Sunday carvery for just £9.95 and is a winner of the Fenland area for East Midlands food and drink.
There are also regular entertainment nights, which sound like fun in a warm friendly environment.
I could not fault either food or service throughout the evening and we will certainly go back to the Golden Lion again.
