Happy eaters defeat veg

Vegetables stood no chance at a village primary school last week as children chopped and cooked them as part of a national initiative to get more children eating healthily.

Julie Smith, administrator at Weston Hills CofE Primary School, said the school was supporting the Eat Them To Defeat Them 2020 initiative, designed to combat the stat that 80 per cent of children don’t eat enough vegetables.

“Children have done some wonderful cooking on Monday with Roots to Food. Children in Years 1-6 prepped and cooked Teriyaki Chicken or Quorn with Bombay Noodles.

“It was fantastic to see children who initially said they would not even try this food and didn’t like vegetables, tucking into everything and loving all the vegetables.”

The Veg Power campaign is in partnership with ITV, Channel 4 and Sky and is well-supported by celebrities and chefs.
