Road collapses for second time

One of the main routes into Holbeach looks set to be closed for some time after part of the road collapsed for the second time in a year.

Boston Road South is closed between the junction with Cecil Pywell Avenue and Holbeach Primary Academy after the collapse on Sunday.

Traffic problems have heightened around the town with maintenance work also being carried out on the B1515 Spalding Road in Holbeach having overrun.

Though that road finally re-opened Tuesday traffic lights remain in place.

Boston Road South remains closed and there are signs of further subsidence further along the road.

District councillor Tracey Carter has called for extensive works to be done to ensure that the road does not collapse again.

She said: “Hopefully the authorities will put all efforts into fixing it properly and not just patching it otherwise we’ll be here again year after year.

“It’s been less than a year since it happened last time.

“I can’t imagine the damage it’s doing to people’s cars and someone’s going to end up getting hurt.

“I urge them to put their budgets together and fix it once and for all.”

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We are currently on Boston Road South in Holbeach investigating a collapsed sewer.

“The road has been closed with a diversion route in place to allow us to carry out our investigations and the necessary repair work, to get things back to normal.

“No customer facilities are affected and we hope to have this repaired as quickly as possible. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this is causing.”

Lincolnshire County Council executive member for Highways, Coun Richard Davies, said: “We are working with Anglian Water to help repair and reopen Boston Road as soon as possible.

“We appreciate that this will cause a lot of disruption, so would like to thank residents for bearing with us.”
