Billiards round-up: Table-toppers Holbeach up the ante with key whitewash win

Spalding and District Billiards League leaders Holbeach A put in another impressive performance on Monday night.

The table-toppers further improved their position at the summit by thrashing Donington 7-0 on their home baize.

Chris Chamberlain (R80), James Glover (R80) and Ben Harding (R30) all enjoyed frame wins on the night, with Glover sinking breaks of 22 and 20 in the process.

Second-placed Pyramid A lost three points to the leaders after they managed a 4-3 derby victory over Pyramid B.

Eric Wyer (R90) and John Twell (R50) impressed with frame wins, with the latter making a 20 break.

But Darrell Read’s (R30) win over John Clapton (R90) gave the B team a narrow 575-573 aggregate victory, earning them an extra point.

Elsewhere, the biggest break of the week came from Rob Childs as he helped Crowland beat Holbeach B 5-2.

Cue master Childs (O270) racked up scores of 81, 43, 42 and 37 in his frame victory, with Paul Holland (R60) Crowland’s others to triumph.

Tony Blanchard (R50) made a 25 break as he grabbed frame three for Holbeach B.

Also on-song were Gosberton B, who picked up a fine 5-2 success over Long Sutton.

Shane White (O30) and James Waterfall (R50) were the frame winners for the hosts, making breaks of 37 (unfinished) and 32 respectively.

Mick Cooper (O190) hit back with a 41 for Sutton.
