Village to lose dental practice

A Pinchbeck dental practice is to close at the end of next month.

Pinchbeck Dental Surgery at Market Way will close its doors when Dr Phillip Baldock retires on March 31.

Dr Baldock has not been available for comment at time of press but a member of staff at the surgery said letters will be sent to patients by the middle of next week informing them of the closing date and directing them to options for a new dentist.

South Holland is notoriously lacking for NHS dental care places but it’s hoped this will be eased when a new surgery opens at the former Voice office at Winsover Road in Spalding.

A spokesman for the surgery, Winsover Dental Care, said this week it is still on track to open on March 1 and prospective patients can ‘pre-register’ on its website www.winsoverdentalcare.co.uk

After a number of delays, NHS England hoped two new surgeries would open in the area last year following a procurement drive in 2018, but recruitment issues meant plans were shelved, leaving thousands still without provision.

JDSP Dental Ltd were awarded the contract for an 8am-8pm, seven-days-a-week service after a second round of procurement in 2019, which again hoped would bring two new surgeries to the area.

Figures from a government survey published last year revealed South Lincolnshire to be the second worst place in the country to be a new patient.
