Nene Valley runners on song in Telford

Five Peterborough Nene Valley AC athletes were among the 1,127 finishers at the Telford 10km Road race, and four of them, all seasoned runners, gained new personal bests.

However, local honours went to Helpston Harrier Josh Lunn who finished 25th in a new best (PB) time of 30.10hrs, a time that would be fast enough in win many British road races.

The Shropshire course has a reputation for producing fast times, as a result of which fast runners come from far and wide to compete.

Dominic Watson was the quickest of the flying Peterborough foursome, finishing 110th in 32.04mins.

Cambridgeshire Road League champion Kirk Brawn was next, taking 167th position with a 33.27mins clocking.

James Sadlier and Brian Corley finished 180th and 181st, crossing the line together in 33.50mins.

Chloe Finlay was the only Peterborough Nene Valley athlete to not record a PB, but ran well to finish in 38.02mins.

  • Yaxley Runners were the leading local club in the Frostbite League race at Ramsey finishing fifth, with Eye Community Runners sixth.

Michael Moore, running for second claim club Peterborough Nene Valley, finished in seventh place with a 29.42mins clocking the day after a tough cross country race at Heanor.

Bushfield pair Scott Meadows and Martin Gichuhi were 16th and 17th in times of 30.40mins and 30.46mins respectively.

Patracs Paul Lunn also finished 19th with 30.52mins clocking.

Werrington Jogger Ellie Swire was the leading local lady, crossing the line fourth in 34.28mins.

Kayleigh Draper, of Yaxley finished sixth with a time of 35.35mins. Her team mate Gina Crane clocked 36.29mins for tenth place.

Connor Cassar of Peterborough Nene Valley was the leading local boy in the junior 3km race with a 22nd place finish. Chelsie Bole and Elizabeth Eames who had both starred for Peterborough in the previous day’s cross country were the second and fourth ladies home.
