Holbeach woman kicked police officer

A 61-year-old Holbeach woman, who had been arrested after being abusive and swearing following a domestic incident, kicked a police officer at Boston Police Station, a court has heard.

Magistrates in Boston heard that police had been called to the home of Judith Browes in Lawyer’s Close at 3.20pm on August 22 because of a domestic incident and found her to be “aggressive and non-compliant” and she had to be arrested, prosecutor Anthony Cheung told Boston magistrates.

He said she was abusive and swearing when at the police station and refused to get out of the police vehicle so “had to be removed”.

Mr Cheung said she called a police officer a “bastard”, raised her fists and had to be restrained and, as she was being taken to a cell, she kicked backwards with her “shorn foot” and hit the officer on the shin.

The court heard she had previous convictions for “offences against the person”.

Mitigating, Michele Elvin said Ms Browes suffered from mental health problems and was ‘unable to cope with problems in her personal life’.

Ms Elvin said Ms Browes’ partner had called the police but ‘she believes that if she had been left alone on the night she’d have been all right.’

She added Ms Browes had attempted suicide on her release from custody and had had to receive hospital treatment.

After hearing from the Probation Service, magistrates ordered her to carry out 10 rehabilitation days and to pay compensation of £100 to the police officer.
