LETTER: Proud to lay a wreath

In response to the letter entitled “They should be ashamed” may I say that it is the norm for political leaders with over six MPs in Parliament to lay wreaths at the cenotaph. All party leaders do this, it is expected of them.

We, as the local Labour Party, have been doing this locally for the past few years. We do it for the same reason the party leaders or any one else does, as a mark of remembrance and respect for all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us and their country.

We lay wreaths at three services in the area: Spalding, Holbeach and the Deepings. Our local MP attends Remembrance Day services and also lays wreaths.

We are not ashamed to lay wreaths but are proud to do so.

Perhaps the question should not have been why we lay wreaths but why the other parties do not.

Janet Barnes
Secretary, South Holland and the Deepings CLP
