On-song Spalding Indoor Bowls Club cruise into round three of the Egham Trophy

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s talented national mixed team progressed to the third round of the Egham Trophy on Sunday.

They booked a clash with Barwell in the next round by seeing off rivals Peterborough in comfortable fashion, winning on all four rinks.

The tone was set early when, at five ends, Spalding had already opened up a 34-7 lead.

That was extended to 60-18 at ten ends, before Peterborough conceded when the score was 98-36.

Spalding won on all four rinks but the main damage was done by one of their away rinks. That was skipped by Kevin Ekins, with Lauren Finbow, Karen Martin and Andy Dunham.

They had an extremely strong second half to the game which consisted of collecting two counts of six and a seven, before returning a winning scorecard of 38-6.

The third round clash with Barwell will take place on Sunday, November 24.

Once again, the tie will see four rinks do battle – two at home and two away.

Rink scores: At home – Stephen Harris, Jean Patterson, Chelsea Tomlin and Mathew Orrey won 20-15. Nick Wilkie, Gill Needham, Annie Dunham and Martin Spencer won 20-10. Away – Ruby Hill, Julie Hicks, Matt Whyers and Jordan Philpott won 20-5. Lauren Finbow, Karen Martin, Andy Dunham and Kevin Ekins won 38-6.
