Hussey impressed as four-midable Holbeach United shoot down Star in style

In-form Holbeach United moved up to third place in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division on Saturday with a dominant 4-0 victory over Peterborough Northern Star.

Spencer Tinkler headed the Tigers into a 1-0 half-time lead at Carter’s Park, before further goals from Jonny Lockie, Adam Jackson (albeit one for the dubious goals panel) and Luke Avis secured a relatively straightforward victory.

Tigers boss Danny Hussey felt that his side were coasting a little bit in the first half, but was very pleased with what he saw from them after the break.

He said: “We didn’t do too badly in the first half and I was pleased to go in ahead.

“But I was concerned that we were coasting a bit – and the last time I saw that, we gave up a lead at Leicester Nirvana and lost.

“So I had a few words with the lads and they went out in the second half and did everything that was asked of them.

“I was really happy with what I saw and we scored some nice goals, too.

“Jonny finished off a great team move and Luke Avis scored with an incredible scoop.

“As for Adam, I’m not sure what he was doing out on the right wing! There has been some debate about his goal; all I’ll say is that his shot was turned in by a defender.

“We really should have had a few more goals. If it wasn’t for Dan Swan in the Star goal, we’d probably have won a little more convincingly.

“Will Bird could have had a hat-trick off the bench, for example.

“With us being the only side winning in the league on Saturday, we’re in a very handy position now and I’m very pleased with that.

“There’s a long way to go, but to be third in November is pretty decent.”

Tinkler’s opener was a glancing header from a Liam Adams delivery.

That man Adams was involved in the second goal, crossing for Lockie to tap home at the back post.

Goal number three was a right-wing drive from Jackson than was deflected into the net by a defender, before Avis scooped home a fantastic fourth.

Tigers: Drury, Wilson, T Smith, N Jackson, Fairweather, A Jackson (Gadsden), J Smith, Tinkler, Ford (Bird), Lockie (Avis), Adams. Not used: Lovelace.
