New era ahead for Spalding United as key changes made at boardroom level in bid to reach out to community

Spalding United have announce that the club is now under new ownership with new shareholders and directors welcomed in a restructure of the company and the board.

The club’s existing shareholders Rod Quinton and Graham Chappell welcome local businessman and solicitor Paul Turnell as a new shareholder.

The three are joined by shareholder/director positions for Andrew Gay, Jennifer Gay, Eddie Reeve and Phil Brennan.

Businessman Iain Crawford is also welcomed onto the board to assist with business development of the club moving forward.

Andy Gay continues as chairman of the board, with Jennifer Gay as club treasurer.

New director/shareholder Crawford said: “Since I moved to the Spalding area many years ago, Spalding United Football Club has always been an important part of the community and for many reasons this appears to have been lost over the last few years.

“I am delighted to join the board and I look forward to supporting Andy and the other board members in helping the Tulips grow for today and the future. Spalding United is the town’s football club and now more than ever we need the town to come out and support the club – starting on Saturday with our big local derby against Stamford.”

Andy Gay added: ” This is a great opportunity for Spalding United Football Club to move forward and start a new era.

“The vision and mandate of the club moving forward both on and off the pitch is to be a community club and in the heart of the community with everything we do.

“We welcome Paul Turnell as a shareholder and Iain Crawford to the board and we are excited about the fresh plans and ideas we now have on the table.

“The key now though is that we want to reach out to local businesses, individuals and the community as a whole to join us and listen to our plans and vision we have and indeed how people can get involved and be part of this community club moving forward.

“On the pitch we have a management team in Matt (Easton), Lewis Thorogood) and Bob (Don-Duncan) and a group of players who are fully committed and want to be part of Spalding United more than ever before.

“Our continued thanks go to them for their support and efforts on the pitch and we are confident we can support them moving forward.”

Anyone interested in finding out how you can get involved with the future of the club can contact chairman Andy Gay on 07949 428162 or emailing [email protected] or treasurer Jennifer Gay on 07917 532796 or emailing [email protected]

Admission fees ahead of Saturday’s game with Stamford are adults £8, concessions and students £5 and children under-15 £2.

Spalding also hope to make more exciting announcements in the coming weeks.
