LETTER: Get Brexit done

My understanding of the Benn Act is that Boris Johnson will be obliged to ask for an extension in the event of there being No Deal, to prevent the UK leaving the EU with No Deal.

Now that Boris has negotiated a deal with the EU, it means that the Benn Act is now redundant.

If – as expected –Parliament votes against the new deal, there would be no legal grounds for Boris to ask for an extension.

Parliament has now locked itself into a corner.

There is a negotiated deal, if Parliament votes it down then a No Deal exit is the next default move.

Let us get on with it and get Brexit done.

I suspect the Benn Act was introduced in the belief that the PM would not strike a new deal with the EU.
