Dave enjoys double delight at Tydd Gote Angling Club

It was double top for in-form Dave Simmonds at this week’s Tydd Gote Angling Club matches at Main Road as he followed up his victory at the Wednesday Open with another comfortable win at the Sunday Club match.

Drawn at end peg 22, Simmonds had a 5lb bream in the first five minutes and added perch and rudd for a 6lb 11oz total that was well clear of the chasing pack.

There was a real tussle for the minor places with ounces separating Archie Greenwood on peg 26, Steve Borrett on peg 25 and Andrew Kilby on peg 27.

Greenwood made a quick start but was pegged back by Kilby as the roach moved down a peg. Greenwood enticed them back but could only watch as they moved onto peg 25 for the final hour where Borrett almost made up the deficit only to lose out by an ounce.

That left Greenwood to take second with 3lb 13oz, Borrett in third on 3lb 12oz and Kilby fourth with 3lb 10oz.

Results: Wednesday Open (Main Road): 1st Dave Simmonds 12lb 2oz; 2nd Pete Emery 9lb 14oz; 3rd Jon Young 9lb 2oz.

Thursday evening club match (Black Dyke): 1st Sammy McSpadden 13lb 2oz; 2nd Pete Emery 6lb 9oz; 3rd Archie Greenwood 6lb 7oz.

  • Chris Newton took the spoils in Holbeach and District Angling Club’s latest match at Main Road Bridge.

The day saw 17 members turn up on what promised to be a good day for fishing.

Newton’s weight of 11lb, with a couple of bonus skimmers of 1lb each and net of nice roach took on red maggot hook bait, was enough for top spot.

His uncle Mark Chapman was second with a total weight of 10lb 6oz built up of some nice rudd, roach and skimmers taken on pinkie hookbait.

In third place was Roger Smith, whose weight of 9lb also had some nice skimmers and a good stamp roach.

Next match is at Sharp’s Bridge on Sunday (draw 7.30am).
