LETTER: Could fire prone site be cleared?

Good to note the page two editorial within The Voice on April 18 concerning the flagrant abuse of the Pecks Drove (old Grooms site) in Spalding, by its current tenants/owner.

Once again we have had to request fire services to this site – just imagine the expense incurred and of course at the moment all down to us taxpayers.

It does seem that the Opperman organisation is sadly prone to fires as your report highlights, this being the fifth in just two years on this site alone.

Of course the site is owned by the huge Ashwood Homes/Ashley King empire who one has to say, despite all that they take out of the area in profits, still find it too hard to put just a little back into the community by managing this site and its apparent exposure to fire.

The site is insecure and open to vagrants/vandals, yet there is also a large area of glasshouses which have been dropped to the ground (destroyed) – how long before our children get seriously hurt by the tons of glass?

Perhaps between Opperman’s and Ashwood Homes they could find time to do their public duty and clear this site before we have a sixth or even seventh fire.

One hopes that our local and county representatives press for a recharge of all the incurred costs to the tenant and owner of this site, perhaps that might just make them think a bit harder.
