Spalding could be set for months of roadworks this summer as Anglia Water looks to create a new half a million pound water main in the town.
The company has confirmed it’s hoping to start the work in the next few months, but final details of the work needed are yet to be confirmed.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Our teams are currently planning a scheme to install an additional water main which will support our existing network across Spalding.
“The work is scheduled to begin this summer, although details of the scheme have yet to be finalised.
“The work will see over a half a million pounds invested in the area to ensure our network will meet the demands of a growing population and keep taps running for years to come.
“Once all details have been confirmed, we will be in touch with local residents to keep them up to date of our plans as work progresses.”
Lincolnshire County Council confirmed the authority is aware of the works.
A spokesman said no requests to close roads had been made as yet but its ‘likely’ at least one road will be closed.
“We will of course work with Anglian Water to minimise the impact on the travelling public,” the spokesman said.
The work is expected to centre around the Chatterton Tower from which the water for the majority of Spalding’s residents passes through.
The 1955 built water tower, which was renovated two years ago, has a total capacity of 3,400,000 litres of fresh water brought in from Bourne treatment works via an 18 inch pipe.
Anglian Water has an abstraction licence for a maximum of 25 million litres per day from Bourne, though the norm is around 16 million.
