Smashing banger action as Sutton Bridge’s Ady impresses on rare outing

South Holland racers were involved in a top night of Banger action on Saturday as more than 150 cars crammed into the Adrian Flux Arena in King’s Lynn.

It was a night of non-stop banger racing with some big thrills and spills, as the masters of destruction took to the track.

Three bangers classes descended on the arena, including something different in the form of only Mk 1 Almera and All Sunny Bangers – limited to give drivers the chance to use “old stock” against like for like cars that they might not wish to use at a normal meeting.

The hugely popular and entertaining Micro Bangers and the excellent Junior Bangers were also on the bill.

Ady Groome, from Sutton Bridge, made a rare outing in the bangers and was in excellent form akin to when he was regularly racing.

He took a very smartly presented Nissan Sunny and, while results didn’t fall his way, he put it to great use – taking and dishing out the hits like he’d not been away. His car certainly went home looking a lot different than when it arrived and was severely battle scared.

In the Micro Bangers, Alex Exton (Spalding) was heavily involved in the action as always. His Ford KA folded and snapped – and took some big hits throughout the evening.

Even with the car struggling for momentum, Exton made it out for the Destruction Derby, where the KA was destroyed and killed off.

Crowland’s Harry Cole had a great evening in the Micro Bangers, picking up a heat win and an eighth place in his smartly-presented Micra Banger.

Although he didn’t manage to finish the meeting final, his car was certainly on pace.

Coming up next at the Adrian Flux Arena is a big weekend of racing over the Easter weekend (Saturday, April 20 at 5.30pm).

Some 180 cars will be in action, including the superb Unlimited Bangers in their East Anglian Championship, as well as the high impact, 2L and 1300cc Stock Cars.

Monday, April 22 (1pm) will also see ‘The Wacky Races’, which includes 4×4 SUV Bangers, Micro Banger Crazy Races, Reliant Robins and Siamese Bangers.
