Body found in search for Valerie

The family of an elderly dementia patient who went missing in Spalding sparking a two day search have said her body was found on Tuesday night

Valerie Bycraft was reported missing on Monday morning after last being seen by family and friends at around 6.45pm on Sunday, March 17.

On Wednesday morning her son Timothy Bycraft posted on social media: “Thank you everyone for looking for mum (Valerie).
“Sadly she was found last night too late x.”

In a statement Lincolnshire Police, said: “While formal identification has not yet taken place, officers believe it to be missing Spalding woman Valerie Bycraft. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Her family, who have been informed, would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the search.”

It followed a police statement on Facebook on Tuesday night about a possible new sighting of Valerie at 2pm on Tuesday in a field near to MacDonald’s on Holbeach Road.

The community came together to aid the search for the pensioner who police believed may have been wearing nightwear and blue slippers when she went missing.

Volunteers taking part in groups, social media posts being widely shared and Lincolnshire Police asking Spalding residents to check their outbuildings and property for Valerie in a statement on Tuesday.

A large police presence has been in the area for the search involving heat detecting drones, helicopters and police dogs.
