LETTERS – No surprise toilets are a disgrace

It was really interesting to read in The Voice (31/01/2019) of the recent joint inspection by elected members and staff, of South Holland’s public toilet facilities.

Of course it was of no surprise, presumably even to these people on the visit, that all of South Holland’s toilets are a disgrace and have been for many years.

One wonders why more of taxpayer’s money needed to be wasted by such a group inspecting facilities of which they should have known the condition of even before setting foot out of Priory Road, if they did not know, shame on them.

Where do these highly ranked people live and work, yet still apparently have no awareness of the condition of the facilities for which they have a responsibility.

No doubt the tour was a nice jolly, undoubtedly with transport and refreshments provided by us taxpayers.

Moving on, one gets really excited to read of the commitment to refurbish the now known dilapidated facilities, but hey ho, it’s going to take until 2025, yes 2025, that’s another six years.

One presumes we can all imagine the deterioration over such a lengthy period that the facilities will continue to suffer.

But not to worry, with elections in May and a four year stint, even newly elected council members will be departed from office or will have had to stand for a second time before this fantastic refurbishment programme is completed.

No wonder the recent jolly was not at the top of “must do” list for our current elected councillors other than a day out at taxpayers expense.

South Holland District Council is a comparatively rich authority and will no doubt be increasing Council Tax in April, so for once why don’t they dip into those reserves and give South Holland’s people decent toilets to use.
