Saturday football: Brad bags treble as Tulips smash seven, Tigers grab derby spoils

Spalding United romped to a sensational 7-3 success over Pontefract Collieries on Saturday, while Holbeach United earned a 2-0 victory at Sleaford Town.

On what was a remarkable day at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, a Brad Wells hat-trick inspired the relegation-threatened Tulips to a stunning success over third-placed Pontefract.

Wells notched on 5, 70 and 78 minutes for Matt Easton’s side, while Liam Marshall (32), Leon Mettam (46) and new signing Romario Martin (77 and 84) also got in on the action.

While Wells was helping himself to a treble, it was revealed that his brother Kieran is making the move to Hednesford Town.

The win sends Spalding up to 16th in the table, three points clear of the foot.

Meanwhile, both sides had players sent off as Holbeach took the derby spoils against Sleaford at Eslaforde Park.

James Tricks gave the Tigers an early lead, before home striker Ryan Oliver was sent off for an elbow.

It was soon ten versus ten when Jay Whyatt was given his marching orders for Holbeach, who then doubled their money when Tinkler headed home an Adam Jackson cross to seal the points.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox were held to a 2-2 draw by Stamford Lions in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division – but still extended their lead at the top.

Tydd went down 2-1 at Peterborough Sports Development in the same division, while Holbeach United Reserves drew 3-3 with ICA Sports.

The big derby between Sutton Bridge United and Long Sutton Athletic ended 1-1.
