Pyramid A at the summit at league’s halfway point

At the halfway stage of the Spalding and District Snooker League it’s Pyramid A who sit atop the summit.

The Division One leaders were 4-2 winners over Holbeach C in the last match to ensure their lead continues into the second half of the season.

Second placed Services E kept up the pressure winning 4-2 against Donington A.
Holbeach A made ground on the top five by beating third placed Bourne A 5-1.

Despite an opening 115-99 win for Mark Gray (O105) over Mick Pearl (O14) which included breaks of 57 and 33, Holbeach came roaring back through Jem Merrison (O35), the returning Pearl (O14), Colin Dodds (O7) and Mick Ayres (O7). Holbeach D were 5-1 winners at Boundary B.

Donington C are first after a 4-2 win over Services C.

Geoff Hemsil’s (R21) 121-66 frame win over Neil Reynolds (O49) had put Services 2-1 ahead but wins from Neil Favell (O7) and Mat Turner (O21) saw them home.

Sutton A won a thriller against Services F. Sean Swinburn (O42) won the fourth frame on the black for Sutton 73-60 over Adam Braybrook to take it to a decider that Stuart Atkin (O49) won for Sutton 86-53.

Elsewhere, Pyramid A beat Donington A 5-1 in a mid-table clash.

In the derby basement battle Tulips B won 4-2 against Tulips A. Bren Bowman (O56) winning on the black ball after a break of 34 against Darren Woodberry (O42) had put the A side 2-1 up but the Bs fought back with Joe Garland (O7) and Mark Wilkinson (O21) winning tight games.

Consti F also picked up a win beating Pyramid A 4-2.

Boundary A are seven points clear at the top of Division Two after a 5-1 win over Services B.

Pete King’s (R7) break of 22 in a 63-36 victory over Mark Howlett (O14) set them on their way but Alan Hansard brought Services level in the battle of the scratch handicappers with Stewart Lilley.

Frame wins from John Tideswell (O14), Jim McGhee (R7) on the black and Stewart Lilley (Scr) cemented their position at the top.

Second placed Consti G had a surprise 4-2 defeat to lowly Consti B, Martin Fear (Scr) winning the decider against Nigel West (R7) 69-49 after John Barnes (O14) had levelled it at two frames each with a one point win over Steve Spencer (R21).

A break of 40 from Carl Parnell (O28) was the highlight as Long Sutton B beat Services

A 4-2 while Holbeach B were comfortable 5-1 winners over Pyramid C.
Earlier in the week Pyramid C had beaten Services A 4-2 in a rearranged game.

Donington B are on top of Division Three after a 5-1 victory over Consti C.

Second placed Long Sutton C slipped up losing 4-2 to now third placed Holbeach E.
Dan Mayfield’s break of 29 was the highlight for Sutton but Zac Rowlett (O14) won the decider 57-33 against David Lefley (Scr).

Whittlesey B beat Pyramid E 4-2, Pavel Skutela’s break of 24 the highlight for Whittlesey.

Their A side were defeated 4-2 by Consti A, Steve Sinfield (O7) sealing his team’s victory on the black over Malc Bruce (O7).

Consti E were 5-1 winners against Consti D while Gosberton B beat Gosberton C 4-2.

Prior to the league meetings there were also several Knockout Cup ties settled.

Consti B were 4-1 winners over Services D, Holbeach D won 3-1 v Pyramid D and Holbeach E overcame Services E 4-2.

Three of the frames went down to the last ball, Holbeach winning two of them.
