Pensioner dies in A16 collision

A 76-year-old pensioner from the Spalding area has died following a road traffic collision on the A16 yesterday.

The man, who has not been named, was driving a white Vauxhall Astra around 12.20pm at Algakirk when the vehicle was involved with a collision with a white Scania HGV.

Lincolnshire Police closed the road for several hours and initially reported that one person was seriously injured.

A follow-up statement posted at 9.30am this morning (Monday), said: “We can confirm that a 76-year-old man from the Spalding area who was involved in this collision has died.

“He was the driver of a white Vaxuhall Astra car. A white Scania HGV was also involved in the collision.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision but did not stop at the scene, or anyone who has dashcam footage, to contact us on 101, quoting Incident 171 of November 11.

“Alternatively, email [email protected] putting Incident 171 of November 11 in the Subject line.”
