Help community scheme to get cash pot

A Gosberton and Quadring community scheme is in with the chance of a cash grant thanks to making an awards shortlist.

The  Good Neighbour Scheme has been shortlisted in the Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving 2018 awards and is in with the chance of winning £500.

Voting closes on October 12 and this year Skipton said it has 165 pots of cash to give away.

“Now in its sixth year, Grassroots Giving has already helped more than 800 community groups across the UK which might normally struggle to attract any funding, said a Skipton spokesman.

“This year we have received 743 applications with a wide and wonderful range of inspirational stories.”

The Gosberton and Quadring Good Neighbour Scheme’s chair and founder Jane Brigginshaw said of the group: “The Gosberton and Quadring Good neighbour Scheme aims to improve quality of life within our community by helping people over the age of 18 with tasks that neighbours would lend a hand with.

“Thus enabling people to cope when things are difficult, access services and appointments which might otherwise be inaccessible and overcome loneliness.

“It does this by drawing on the goodwill of local volunteers.

“We are committed to promoting an atmosphere of inclusion, transparency and openness and are open to feedback from the people who use our services, carers, advocates and our volunteers with a view to how we may continuously improve our services/activities.

“Volunteers in our organisation accept and recognise our responsibilities to raise awareness of issues that adults at risk face, and to establish and maintain a safe environment for them.”
