Chance to perform at Spalding Pumpkin Parade with free samba class

Samba, the irresistible Latin style of music that can’t help but shake hips, is coming to Spalding with free lessons starting this month.

Experts and beginners alike are welcome to take part in the sessions, and the group’s first outing will come at this year’s Spalding Pumpkin Parade on Friday, October 12.

“No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to move with the groove!” a spokesman from organiser Transported said.

Sessions will be led by Chris Lewis-Jones (pictured), an artist and musician who has spent a quarter of a century bringing the rhythms of Brazil to Britain.

As Artistic Director of Sambawamba Carnival Arts Company he worked across the UK, Europe and beyond, raising baterias (samba groups), directing performances, designing carnival processions, playing and recording music.

“Chris’s teaching style is relaxed and appropriate for beginners and improvers alike,” said a spokesman.

The first Tuesday session takes place at St Paul’s Church, 6pm to 8pm, September 11.
