New Spalding pub The Tulip Queen set for autumn date

The doors are nearly ready to open at Spalding’s newest pub.

The Tulip Queen is on course to open next month and has created 60 jobs for South Holland.

“We believe that The Tulip Queen will be an excellent opportunity for people to learn new skills and gain experience. The Tulip Queen will offer a great community feel,” said manager Gary Stevenson.

The pub, at Lincs Gateway, will also offer 38 bedrooms with accommodation ranging from twin rooms to large family rooms and is due to open for business on Monday, September 24.

The Marston’s pub is on the Goodison Road site which could also be home to a Kentucky Fried Chicken branch, although a starting date for construction has yet to be confirmed.

A planning application to remove a 400-delegate condition on a planned conference centre at the site has been agreed.

Developer Ashley King also wanted to move the location within the site.

The application had received objections from Springfields Horticultural Society which claimed there was no need for a centre, as there was already a similar facility at Springfields Events and Conference Centre.

But members of South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee agreed with the proposals at its July meeting.

“Given the location of the site and the outline approval, there is a clear precedent that the area is in need of a combined approach to economic growth to ensure success of the overall masterplanned development,” said a report which was presented to members of the committee.

“A conference centre is normally considered a town centre use, but the principle of its being located on this site has already been established as being acceptable by the outline planning consideration in this regard,” it added.
