Thank you for the music on ABBA day

Fun was the name of the game at St John’s Care Home in Spalding, when staff lifted residents’ spirits to a tune filled Abba day.

Music and entertainment was provided by local singer Rosa Mae who sang all the favourites by the 1970s pop group from Dancing Queen to Mama Mia.

The care home staff entered into the spirit of the day, dressing up in their disco outfits and entertaining residents with dancing and singing along.

“We’ve had a fantastic afternoon” said Ida Brickles, Activities Coordinator.

“Everyone seems to know the words to the songs and it’s been lovely to see our residents getting up and dancing or clapping along to the familiar tunes.”

Residents were joined by family members including children and grandchildren who all joined in and agreed the afternoon was a great success, a spokesman said.

Music can be very beneficial to people living with dementia, through a variety of genres their mood can be lifted instantly, words remembered and agitation reduced.
