Boss happy with Tulips squad as White signs

Spalding United manager Chris Rawlinson says he’s happy with the squad he has after adding former loanee Luke White on a permanent basis.

The Tulips will begin their pre-season campaign with a trip to Grimsby Borough on Saturday as the preparations for the new Evo-Stik Division One East step up a notch.

If pre-season goes to plan, Rawlinson says he’s happy with what he has so far.

“Luke compliments the squad,” Rawlinson said. “I’m perfectly happy now with what we’ve got now.

“I’m not looking to bring any more in.

“Things can change in pre-season so quickly but I’m really pleased with what we’ve been able to bring in and to retain most of what we had.

“I’m now looking forward to seeing how we shape up in the pre-season games. It’s looking promising.”

White played a supporting role for the Tulips at the back end of last season after joining from Lincoln City Youth Academy on a short term loan.

He’s since been released by Lincoln and Rawlinson has snapped him up.

“In the squad we’ve got some very experienced goal scorers and Luke adds to the young talents,” the manager added.

“He did will last season, held the ball up well and scored two or three goals.

“He suits the model of what we want at the club.

“We’ve six U20s in the squad and we’re looking to develop those to help them push on in their footballing career.

“Luke’s probably not going to be one to start every week just yet but he’s one we’re developing and hopefully in a couple of years we’ll have a really good player on our hands.”
