Woman who drove into railings gets driving ban

A woman who made eight failed attempts to blow into the intoximeter at the police station following a positive breath test, has been banned from driving for 14 months.

Mrs Ramune Callaghan, 44, of Witham Road, Spalding, admitted the offence, as well as driving without a driving licence when she appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting, Marie Stace said she was arrested following a failed breath test in Double Street in Spalding
at 5.30pm on June 17 after a road traffic collision in which she collided with some railings.

She said it was also discovered that Callaghan’s driving licence had been revoked because of a problem with her eyes.

Philippa Chatterton, mitigating, said Mrs Callaghan had been ‘very emotional and distressed’ because it
was her first time in a police station, but she had ‘done her best’ to provide the sample of breath.

She added that Mrs Callaghan, who was not driving at all at the moment, had taken the car when she had an argument with her husband and was trying to get away from the situation.

She was banned from driving for 14 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 14 weeks.

She was also fined £400 and ordered to pay £125 in costs and charges.
