Josh Wallis was once again in stunning form as he won the inter-club 25-mile time trial organised by Spalding Cycling Club.
Organised by Spalding and contested by cyclists from the host club, Sleaford, Boston and Bourne.
The times for the three fastest riders for each separate club are added up – and the club with the fastest time wins the trophy.
With Wallis leading the way, Spalding regained the team trophy from Sleaford on the night.
It was a near perfect night for time trialling, with sunshine and not to strong a breeze.
There was a field of 23, nine Spalding riders, 11 Sleaford, one from Bourne and three guests.
Wallis’ stunning form continued with a time of 53.12mins, with Richard Hamblin (Sleaford) taking second in 54.54mins.
Crucially for Spalding, Ben Moore was third in 55.27mins and Neil Palmer took fourth in 55.36mins.
The combined time of the three Spalding riders 2.45.38hrs saw them pip Sleaford (3.03.58hrs) to the overall title.
- On Sunday a contingent of seven Spalding riders raced in the Doncaster Criterion town centre races.
These are split into different categories; and riders are placed dependant on their previous race records.
In the Cat Four race, which had 43 starters, Andy Bowser finished in the middle of the leading bunch and took 11th. Chris Bettinson was behind him in 34th.
In the Cat Three race, Adam Ellis came eighth, with Ben Moore tenth and Frazer Wallis putting in another hard-working performance leading the second bunch for several laps and then making a solo break to secure 12th spot.
Unfortunately for Keiran Buffham, he crashed in the penultimate lap due to a chain coming off.
The big race of the day was the Cat One, consisting of a professional standard of riders which included the 2017 champion Graham Briggs who rides for UCI team JLT Condor.
Josh Wallis featured in this and led the race on a number of occasions, finishing in seventh spot – almost beating Briggs, who finished fourth.
The race was won by the current national champion Tom Piddock, but only by a few seconds.
- Spalding’s Tilly Gurney took part in the National Paracycling TT and Road Race Championships in Essex.
She was there as Tandem pilot for Laura Cluxton, from Scotland, and they secured fourth place competing against male tandem riders.
- On the social front, Spalding’s midweek riders took an enjoyable roundabout route of approximately 60 miles to Heckington via Ingoldsby and Oasby and returning via Billingborough and Sempringham.
Some 12 riders joined the Saturday club ride which took a 45-mile loop out to the Fishing lake Cafe on the west side of Boston.
Sunday saw a special social ride to celebrate the completion of Ross McGivern’s Open University degree.
Twelve riders joined him for a trip to Wymondham Windmill near Melton Mowbray sixty miles of excellent riding on a glorious day.
