PDFL round-up: Keeper Wilding holds his nerve to book an ABAX final for Moulton Harrox

Calm keeper Wayne Wilding slotted a penalty-shoot out winner to send Moulton Harrox into the final of the PFA Senior Cup at the expense of Whittlesey Athletic on Saturday.

The stopper, who also saved a Jack Carter penalty in the first half, helped Harrox win a nervy shoot-out 4-3 after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes and booked an ABAX Stadium final against Premier Division rivals Netherton United.

Joe Townsend had earlier put Moulton 1-0 up at Broad Lane, before a Matt Watkin own goal levelled things up at the break.

A second from Townsend, finished after a good cross from Marcus Parry, put Nigel Steadman’s charges back ahead – only for Jack Bates to force a shoot-out for the visitors. Although Jake

Cawthorne missed his spot-kick for Harrox, successful conversions from Townsend, Billy King, Ian Bradbury and, crucially, Wilding booked Harrox’s place in the final.

Moulton followed that win up with a 6-1 PDFL Premier Division success at Peterborough Sports on Tuesday night. Townsend (2), Danny Maddison, Ashley Coddington, Parry and Declan Earth got the goals.

  •  Holbeach United Reserves roared to a 5-1 victory over Peterborough Sports Reserves in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Callum Simmonds (2), Jordan Keeble, Dean Elston and Callum Davies all netted for Phil Barnes’ side to move further clear of the dropzone.

It wasn’t such a good day for Sutton Bridge United in the top tier, as they lost 5-2 at Ketton. Matt Eaton and Kurt Scott got their goals.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic romped to a 9-1 home victory over Netherton Reserves at London Road. Eric Makate (3), Wilkins Makate, Liam O’Connor, Matty Oliver, Billy Oliver, James Ward and Connor Bell all grabbed goals for the Magpies, who are second.

Hot on their heels are Tydd St Mary, who defeated hosts Oundle Town 4-1.

Joe Reed (2) and Edwin Pentney were among the scorers for the Saints.

In Division Two, Spalding United Reserves grabbed a welcome 3-1 victory over Ketton Reserves, while Spalding Town slumped to a 3-1 loss against Eye United.

Down in Division Three, Whaplode Drove are second after a 1-0 win at third-placed Feeder.

In Division Four, goals from Harry Burchnall and Jordan Clow couldn’t stop Huntingdon Rovers beating Holbeach United A 4-2, while Tydd St Mary went down 3-2 at home to Parkside.

Meanwhile, it was raining goals in Division Five A as Spalding United a lost 10-4 at AFC Orton. Craig Weightman (2), Bradley Waterfall and Aidan Armstrong netted for the beaten Tulips.
