Snooker round-up: Malc holds his nerve to seal Gosberton C’s first win of the season

Gosberton C finally clinched their first win of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division Three season on Thursday to ensure that every team has now registered a victory.

Their game with Consti C was finely poised at 2-2 after four frames – Andy Shephard (R21) and Norman Gookey (R7) the Gosberton winners – before Malc Dennis (R7) beat Stuart Gravil (O14) in the decisive finale and seal a 4-2 triumph.

With third tier leaders Crowland C not in action, Consti I took the chance to close the gap on them by seeing off Gosberton B 5-1.

Pete Stokes (R7), Stewart Wells (R21), David Twelves (R14) and Richard Geddes (R14) all won for Consti to move within four points of the table-toppers.

Those two are well clear of fourth-placed Services, who picked up a 4-2 success at Pyramid E. Tanya Peel (scr) clinched that one for her side with a final-frame victory.

It also went to the death in the all-Consti affair between the A and D teams. Martin Perkins’ (O21) black ball win over Steve Hall (O7) settled that one 4-2 in the D team’s favour.

Up in Division One, Holbeach A cut Bourne SC A’s lead by a point after defeating Tulips A 5-1. Jem Merrison (O35) made a fine 43 break and a 22 clearance for Holbeach to help make it eight wins from nine games.

Top-of-the-table Bourne managed a 4-2 home victory over Tulips B, however, despite Mark Woodberry (O56) sinking a 40 break.

The best break of the week went to Long Sutton A’s Sean Swinburn (O42), who racked up an impressive 50 in their 4-2 win at Boundary A.

Black-ball triumphs from Derek Beba (R14) and Steve Dent (scr) helped Sutton get over the line.

Also on good form were Donington C, who saw off Pyramid B 5-1 despite Spencer Dawkins (O49) making a 29 break for the Bourne boys.

Down in Division Two, Boundary C are top after a 5-1 win over Gosberton A.

Services F are just three points back after defeating hosts Holbeach B 4-2, with Ben Peppercorn (O14) clinching the win in the penultimate frame.

Also on the up are Long Sutton C, who picked up two 4-2 wins. Stuart Atkin (O49) sank a 39 break in the 4-2 success over Pyramid D, 24 hours before Crowland A were beaten by the same score.

Atkin again hit a 25 break, while Dan Mayfield (O35) and David Lefley (scr) both bagged 24 breaks.
