Objections to controversial Crowland homes plan are withdrawn

Controversial plans for 100 new homes in Crowland may well be approved after the county council’s highways withdrew its objections.

An application for the homes off Crease Drove was refused earlier this year.

Objections came in from residents, MP John Hayes, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, parish council, Highways and the Environment Agency.

But a meeting of South Holland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday night was expected to approve the proposal.

A recent planning appeal for a scheme on a similar site to the south of Harvester Way in Crowland was successful and members of the planning committee were told: “There are clear parallels with this case.”

The planning inspector also disagreed over highways issues and decided improvements to the road could be secured with pre-start conditions.

“In the absence of an objection from County Highways and the aforementioned appeal decision, it is not considered that there is a defendable reason for refusal on highways grounds,” said the report.

The application, for the 3.67 hectare site, makes provision for widening the road.

Lincolnshire County Council wants a financial contribution of £603,648 towards education provision and the NHS wants £44,400 for Abbeyview Surgery.

The developer has also committed to providing a third affordable homes.

“Concerns relating to the provision, and strain on existing, infrastructure are noted. However, there have been no objections from infrastructure providers,” the planning committee report said.

“It is not considered that there are any adverse impacts that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of delivering housing in this location,” the report concludes.
