PDFL round-up: Moulton Harrox suffer maiden league loss, Sutton Bridge smash five

Moulton Harrox were finally beaten in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Nigel Steadman’s charges went down 3-1 at Peterborough ICA Sports, but stay top of the table.

Billy King’s strike wasn’t enough to prevent what was a first league loss at the 13th time of asking.

Elsewhere in the top tier, two goals from Matt Eaton helped Sutton Bridge United to a 5-1 home success over Langtoft United.

The other goals came from Sam Cooper, Martin Baker and Ben English.

It was a case of goals galore in Division One, with champions Moulton Harrox Reserves held to a 4-4 draw by Long Sutton Athletic at Broad Lane.

The Harrox goals came from Declan Earth (2), Tom Panton and Martin Sandall, while Matty Oliver (2), Paul Newcombe and Billy Oliver replied for the Magpies.

Both sides remain in the top four of the table.

Tydd St Mary are now third, however, as they outgunned South Holland rivals Crowland Town 3-2 at Snowden Field.

Top scorer Jake Clitheroe bagged yet another hat-trick for the Saints to take his tally for the campaign to 31 goals in just ten games.

Meanwhile, Division Two side Spalding United Reserves eased to a 6-0 victory over Stilton United in the Intermediate Shield.

Down in Division Three, Whaplode Drove roared to a 4-0 derby success at Holbeach Bank to climb up to third in the table.

In the League Shield, it was a day to forget for Division Four duo Long Sutton Athletic Reserves and Tydd St Mary Reserves.

A sole strike from Shane Millar wasn’t enough to stop Sutton’s second string going down 4-1 at home to Eunice Huntingdon at London Road.

The visitors had Bartosz Piekarski sent off, but sealed safe passage thanks to Marcin Dobrzanski’s late double.

Tydd Reserves, meanwhile, were walloped 5-1 at home by Glinton & Northborough Reserves. Connor Howe jumped off the bench to put that one beyond the Saints.

Down in Division Five, it was a great day for Spalding United A striker Craig Weightman.

The Tulips’ hitman helped himself to a heroic hat-trick to give his side a 3-1 success at Leverington Sports A.

The youthful side are now third in the table, five points off top spot.
