Spalding Golf Club duo Adam and Kevan secure coveted title at Torksey

Talented Spalding Golf Club professional Adam Keogh and junior Kevan Williamson picked up a top title last week.

Keogh and Williamson topped the scoreboard in the PGA Professional and Junior event, which was played in a betterball format.

Played at Torksey Golf Club, the Spalding duo scored an impressive 48 points to clinch the crown.p A host of fantastic finals were played out at the Surfleet course last week as coveted crowns were clinched.

Gary Palmer and Tracy Ann Siddle were the winners of Spalding’s Somers Trophy.

The duo beat Jean and Neil Wilkinson in the final.Simon Rothwell is also celebrating after winning Spalding’s Westcombe Trophy.

He defeated Darren William Ford in that final.Arron Cooke also outgunned Mark Crozier to clinch Spalding’s Rabbits Trophy.

Joe Slater and Sean Stewart also landed the Baker Bowl title by beating  Roger Climo and Spencer Gooderson.

  • The annual Drovers and Hillbillies match took place at the Surfleet course on Thursday for what was the 40th anniversary of the competition.

The match first started when Geoff Fisher (Drovers) challenged Trevor Green (Hillbillies).

They both came from the Fenland villages of Holbeach and Whaplode Droves (Drovers) and Weston Hills (Hillbillies). 

This match started off with 12 players from each team from their respected villages. 

This year, some 80 players from Spalding took part – showing the popularity of the event. 

Four of the original group – Willie Ford, Billy Congreve, present Drovers captain Pete Gooderson and Jim Robertson – took part. 

John Beba and Gooderson have kept the competition going for many years and all those who play appreciate the work that they put in.

The match is followed by dinner and speeches.

  • The annual Spalding Past Captains’ reunion took place on Friday with the traditional 13-hole Stableford competition followed by a sociable evening at the club.

Overall winner was immediate past captain David Tasker (31pts), with organiser and 2017 club captains Mike Crampton the runner-up (30pts).
