Double delight for dominant Long Sutton after emphatic SLBL Cup victory

Dominant Long Sutton completed a fine double on Sunday as they cruised to glory in the SLBL Cup final.

Barry Stanway (5-31) and Rob Simpson (4-2) ripped through the Skegness 2nd batting line-up at Boston, bowling them out for just 78 in 26.1 overs.

That set the stage for an eight-wicket success for SLBL Division One winners Sutton, with skipper Phil Barnes (30) and Dan Oldfield (30 not out) leading the charge.

Raj Sangha (1-21) was the other wicket-taker for Sutton, with Brett Thomas (15 not out) the only Skegness player to impress with the bat.

Sutton did lose Adam Wright for just five in their reply as he was bowled by Matt O’Dare, while Barnes was caught and bowled by Reece Brant at the death.

But they needed just 23.1 overs to clinch the cup, ending a stellar season on a real high.

Some 24 hours earlier, Sutton beat Boston 3rd by five wickets in their final league game. C John (4-4) was the pick of the bowlers as Boston were knocked over for 98 at Paradise Field, while Andy Shaw (2-13), Sangha (2-25) and Simpson (2-18) also impressed.

Wright’s 56 not out was the mainstay of Sutton’s reply, as they reached 101-5 in the 39th over.

Also in Division One, Moulton Harrox (161-8) lost a tight game against Skegness 2nd (162-7) by three wickets. Mike Kearns Snr (36) and Joe Broomfield (34) top scored for Harrox.
