Snooker round-up: In-form duo setting red-hot pace at Division One summit

Two Divison One sides already boast double-figure points tallies after only two weeks of the new Spalding and District Snooker League season.

Services E top the early table after following up last week’s 6-0 win with a 5-1 triumph over Pyramid B, while Bourne SC B also took five points from their trip to Holbeach D.

Starting with the Spalding side, breaks of 32 and 21 from Jason Rose (O14) and 23 from Vince Fitter (O21) secured a big win over Pyramid – and made it 11 points from 12.

Jason Green (O70) did hit back with a super 43 break, but his frame win over Craig Fitter (O56) was in vain.

Bourne SC A, meanwhile, were inspired by another Mark Gray (O105) masterclass at Holbeach and are a point behind the table-toppers.

The ex-pro made a 29 break and a stunning 87 clearance to edge out Neil Grant (scr), while team-mate Max Ayliff (O14) added a 21 break as he beat Tony Blanchard (O7).

Elsewhere, Holbeach C picked up their first win of the season as they dispatched Tulips A 4-2. Dan Ashton (scr) and Bren Bowman (O49) made breaks of 25 and 22 respectively in that one.

The big winners of the week in the top tier were Boundary B, who put Long Sutton A to the sword 6-0.

That was despite breaks of 26 and 21 from Sutton’s Sean Swinburn (O42) and Mat Smith (O42).

Also on winning form were Holbeach B and Consti B, who defeated Tulips B and Consti F 4-2 respectively.

A 28 clearance from Darren Woodberry (O42) was in vain for Tulips B, while a 23 break from Mick Johnson (O42) was the highlight for Consti B in their all-club clash.

In Division Two, four sides boast two wins from two.

Leading the pack are Boundary C, who won a tight tussle against hosts Whittlesey C 5-1. Black ball wins from Mick Walker (O28) and Aiden Sutton (R14) proved key for the Deepings side.

Level pegging with them are Holbeach B, who edged out hosts Gosberton A 4-2.

Zac Roweltt’s (O21) 25 break in the first frame was the game’s stand-out moment.

Also with nine points are Services F. A stellar 38 break from Oliver Turner (O14) and a 26 break from Ben Peppercorn (O14) helped them defeat Consti G 5-1.

The fourth side with two wins is Long Sutton B. They made it back-to-back 4-2 successes by seeing off Crowland A as Carl Parnell (O28) sank a 24 break.

Meanwhile, a 33 break from Pete Mullane (O28) failed to stop Services A going down 4-2 at Consti H, while James Sharpe (O42) pocketed a 30 break in Pyramid D’s 4-2 home reverse at the hands of Services C.

It was a great night for Long Sutton C too, as they celebrated their first win since being promoted. A 28 break from Keith Wells (O35) helped them defeat Donington A 4-2.

In Division Three there are also four teams with two wins from as many matches.

Crowland C and Consti I both have nine points after victories over Whittlesey B and Gosberton C. Jim Howe’s (O35) 25 clearance helped Crowland C win 4-2, while black-balls triumphs from Pat Bowman (R21), John Bellerby (R7) and Stewart Wells (R21) were key in Consti’s 5-1 win.

Also boasting a 100 per cent start are Bourne SC B, who shaded a close contest with Gosberton B 4-2. Simon Born’s (O14) 29 break helped him win the crucial final frame on the last black.

Services B are the final side to finish week two with a brace of victories. They were 4-2 victors at Consti A, aided by a 21 break from Ted Howling (scr).

Another side winning well were Pyramid C, who beat Donington D 5-1.
