Spalding police officer assaulted on beat

A 23-year-old woman was arrested following an assault on a Spalding police officer in the early hours of Monday, September 18.

Police say East Midlands Ambulance Service requested officers assist during a medical call at Cradge Bank, Spalding.

While attending, a male officer received a minor injury to the face but was able to continue his shift.

Insp Gareth Boxall said assaults on police officers are “probably more common than you perhaps think”.

He added the last time it happened “was probably in the last month”.

“Fortunately the majority aren’t too serious. That is often because we’re able to step in and de-escalate a situation pretty quickly.

“People assault officers for different reasons, none of which are acceptable.

“Even when we’re arresting somebody we’re trying to help people. Nothing warrants the police being assaulted,” Insp Boxall said.
