A look at lichen and cemetery trail walks in Holbeach

Holbeach Cemetery Chapels Trust is celebrating three successful events.

The August Paint Out Day had an art expert on hand to help artists capture the chapels on canvas. The eight attendees’ work was then displayed on the open day.

During the open day event, Holbeach Cemetery Research Group’s Linden Secker led two guided cemetery trail tours, thrilling children with his gruesome tales of the people who lived in Holbeach in the 19th century.

Visitors also joined the graveyard survey team who continued its work plotting the graveyard. Two new members joined the team.

To end the activites, world renowned lichenologist Professor Mark Seaward led a gravestone lichen study.

A spokesperson said: “There is now a great enthusiasm to have the chapels refurbished. We hope many people will come to the Heritage Open Day on September 9 and express their views on the future.”
