Aldi’s Spalding supermarket to close until September

Aldi’s Spalding supermarket will be closed for several weeks for major refurbishment to be completed.

The Spalding shop in Winsover Road is expected to shut from 4pm on Sunday, August 27.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Our Spalding store will be temporarily closed while we extend the store and add more parking spaces. We look forward to welcoming our customers back to the store at the end of September.”

“The store will feature newly-designed fixtures for beers, wines and spirits, fresh produce and baby and toddler, as well as a new food-to-go fixture.  The store will also benefit from a significant increase in chill space, underlining the growth of our fresh ranges.”

The company says the expansion plan has been driven by great trading figures and increasing demand by customers.

Aldi’s original planning application submitted to South Holland District Council last year said: “The aim is to improve the existing store to provide a high-quality attractive modern food store for the local community.”

It adds: “The popularity of the store has been exceptional and therefore the need has arisen to further extend the store to facilitate increasing consumer demand.”

The work includes improved pedestrian access with “better circulation space” to the front of the store and large planters. There will be ten new parking spaces – taking the total to 80

The parent and child parking moved closer to the store so that users do not have to cross the car park with their youngsters

The store is set to be extended six metres into the existing car park, taking the store area from 1204sq m to 1472sq m.

The existing building will be rendered white, have new composite wall panels and a new glazed lobby and canopy to complete a more modern look.

The extension will have new ribbon glazing to the Winsover Road elevation to “improve aesthetics externally and increase natural light within the store”.
