Underdogs can have their day as Tulips target play-off glory

Spalding United boss Chris Rawlinson believes his side can take heart from their two league clashes with Witton Albion when the two sides meet in the EvoStik League Division One South play-off final on Saturday.
While the Tulips needed extra-time to beat Stocksbridge Park Steels, Witton were defeating AFC Rushden and Diamonds courtesy of a solitary Robert Hopley strike.
The Cheshire side finished in second place in the Division One South standings and were 17 points clear of Spalding.
However, the two sides shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Wincham Park earlier this month after Witton had edged a narrow 1-0 win at the Sir Halley Stewart in March.
Although the Tulips will go into the clash as underdogs, Rawlinson believes his side still have every chance of claiming the coveted promotion place.
He said: “It should be a great game in front of a big crowd, but we can take heart from drawing there this month and how we played in the second half in the home match.
“We can match them on our day.
“Even though we’ll be the underdog, we have got as much of a chance as they have.
“Tuesday night was another job done, but we’ve still got one more to do. It’s just another step.
“I thought we played very well on Tuesday. We dealt with their threat and coped well when under any pressure so we go to Witton in confident mood.”
