Free Spalding taster sessions of English language skills for foreign nationals

The first of two free sessions in Spalding for foreign national adults wanting to learn more English takes place this weekend.

Led by Hawkfield Training –  Anne Hawkridge and Martin Whitfield – who are qualified and experienced in teaching adults,. the sessions are aimed as a taster for an “English as a second language” summer project based at The Vista Hall and organised by St Mary and St Nicolas Church.

Martin said: “The ‘language club’ tasters and the sessions which follow aim to help people with limited English to speak and write  more confidently in many day-to-day situations.

“The club aims to build knowledge of the English language. This is done through various different approaches such as role play, learning games, interviews and using real-life situations.
“We hope to make learning fun and informal.

“If people are looking to improve their job prospects, taking the British citizenship  test or want to  feel more confident talking to healthcare workers, organisations, schools, employers or the emergency services our approach to learning will help.
“The topics of both taster sessions will be linked to the needs of the people who attend.”

Both taster sessions are sponsored by St Mary and St Nicolas Church. The first taster is at The Vista Hall, off Churchgate, this Saturday and the second is on Saturday, May 6 (both 4pm-6pm).

From May, Hawkfield sessions will continue at a cost of £12 for a two-hour session. Dates and times will be dependent on learner numbers and needs.
