Jamie Stevens could soon seal a return to Holbeach United after holding talks with boss John Chand this week.
The defender has won back-to-back UCL Premier Division titles with Spalding United and Holbeach over the past two seasons and left the Tulips last week by mutual consent.
Returning Tigers chief Chand, who led the club to that UCL triumph, told The Voice that Stevens is central to his plans next season.
He said: “I’m hoping we can do a deal for ‘Jamma’. I really want to get it done.
“We’ve had a good chat and I’ve now got to chat to the club before finalising it.
“He’s absolutely key to what I want to do here and I really want him back.
“The club know that and hopefully we can get him back here.”
Chand’s other main priority is to bring in either a number two or co-boss to help him with the day-to-day running of things at Carter’s Park.
With Steve Appleby having ruled himself out of the running, finding a top notch sidekick is the Holbeach supremo’s main aim.
He added: “I can’t emphasise it enough, I just can’t do it all myself.
“It really is my main priority right now, as it’s maybe a little premature to be chasing too many players.
“I’ve got a few names in mind, but it’s vital this gets sorted sooner rather than later.
“We’ve got to get the right man both logistically and contact-wise.”
Chand, who won three trophies in as many years in his first stint at Holbeach, returned to club three weeks ago.
He has already enticed utility man Jonny Allen, left back Adam Jackson, keeper Tom Roberts and striker Gary King to the club.
