And on Wednesday (Feb 1) he launched a partnership with Chips Ahoy! in Little London, Spalding, to offer the first lunchtime and evening delivery service for fish and chips. Customers pay an extra £1 (minimum order £8).
Dominic (36) said the inspiration for the business came to him when he was working as head driver at a Spalding takeaway.
He said: “I noticed that almost every week, but especially on the weekends, several drivers would ring up and say they were not coming in due to illness or car problems or several other reasons which would put pressure on the other drivers.
“I noticed at least four other shops with ‘drivers wanted’ signs. I wondered if reliability is an issue everywhere or whether people maybe see it as only part-time or secondary income. I thought if I set up my own team of passionate, professional, reliable drivers, maybe I could help some of the local businesses and show people there are great opportunities being a delivery driver.”
Dominic started the business last May and is paid either by the hour or on a piece work basis. He’s working for several restaurants and shops and has plans to take on more drivers and branch out into courier work, stock collections and leaflet delivery.
He said: “I’m proud of what I’ve started so far and if I can turn my future plans into reality I will be super proud. I have always had big dreams and goals but never the confidence to achieve it.”
Leo Fragale, of Spalding eaterie Leo’s Pizza and Pasta Place, uses the delivery service when his staff are on leave or off sick.
He said: “Dominic’s reliable and knows his way around the area. He supplies a good service and I wish him all the luck.”
